INCI: Allantoin

Allantoin is a mild keratolytic agent that dissolves the intercellular cement that binds corneocytes together, thus aiding the natural shedding of the stratum corneum and increasing skin smoothness. Its moisturizing effect results from its ability to increase water retention in the intercellular matrix and keratin, thereby softening the skin and making it appear healthier. The soothing, anti-irritant, and protective effects are due to allantoin's ability to form complexes that neutralize irritants and sensitizers. Allantoin improves cell proliferation, promotes the regeneration of damaged epithelium, and accelerates wound healing.
